Block.one, the company that created the popular EOS blockchain platform, has initiated a program with the aim of leveraging blockchain technology to solve environmental issues. The program was initiated on August 3, 2018 in the form of a hackathon meetup in Sydney, Australia.
The EOS hackathon was an incentivized way of gathering knowledgeable people in the blockchain community together to brainstorm and “create innovative solutions for environmental sustainability”. A total of 51 teams attended the event. Mika Sagindykova, a participant, expresses her views on the meetup:
“I think it’s great that they actually incentivized so many people who come here to work on something that’s so important for us and also for the future generations”
The top three teams of the hackathon are usually rewarded at the end, with the winner receiving $100,000 USD.
The EOS blockchain ICO raised billions of dollars and the Block.one company has committed to investing over $1 Billion USD into funds focused on the growth of the EOS ecosystem. The company has been holding numerous hackathons worldwide to create useful applications for the EOS platform. Block.one aims to invest in the future development of blockchain technologies through:
- Global reach. Block.one invests in the people and companies creating products and services that are on the forefront of the next generation of transformative technologies worldwide.
- Education. Investing in the future of companies is only part of Block.one’s mission; Block.one employs its experience and expertise in blockchain by working directly with portfolio companies to help them reach their full potential.
- Partners. Block.one has developed strategic relationships with venture leaders around the world to ensure founders in all markets have the ability to work directly with local investors.
The EOS platform ICO has been the longest and most successful in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space so far. And with all this money being invested into the EOS project, it’s hard not to see the platform becoming even more successful in the future. And by saying that, I’m not saying that EOS needs all this money to become something great – trust me it doesn’t. EOS has real use cases and industry leading capabilities all by itself.
Anyways, at the end of the day, the environment is a global responsibility. And it’s great to see cutting-edge technology like blockchain and cryptocurrency being leveraged for the betterment of humankind.
