Just another small tutorial, this time to show you how you can quickly enable a secundary Pin in your Scatter Desktop wallet and prevent tokens being transferred out of your wallet without your explicit permission. Normally this Secundary pin is disabled, but it is just 1 minute of work to enable it, and make your wallet much more safe.
Why would you even use an additional Pin for transfers?
Well, when making your on chain transactions, you might not alway be that sharp every time you roll those dice on the gambling sites and accept a transaction. Every time you click accept, you could potentially transfer all your tokens out if you’re not paying attention. Or when revoking a transaction (on newdex for instance), you don’t always see what you’re doing exactly, because the transaction contains only a set of numbers. In such a ‘revoke’ case you could potentially transfer all your funds out of your wallet if you’re not careful. Scatter warns you for this by the way, which is great. But if you turn on this feature, you are also prompted for your second Pin, which shows you that you must be extra cautious.
Here’s how to turn the feature on in Scatter Desktop:
1) Go to the Settings page by clicking the Settings button in the top right corner
2) Click the Pin button
3) Type in your password to gain access
4) Choose a secundary Pin. Never choose one that is identical to your primary password. Scatter will save your 2nd Pin automatically, so you can just return to the main window by clicking the X in the top right corner and you’re done.
From now on, for every normal transaction, you still only use your password. But when you want to transfer tokens out of your wallet you need to manually input this 2nd Pin.
Be safe !
