I am Suleiman from Edo state Nigeria, I am very new to Tribe and this will be my first article.

I was discussing with my friends yesterday about the main reason why people who are well to do find it difficult to help the Needy.

My own opinion on this topic are clearly stated on this article.

Generally if the entire wealth in the world were to be evenly distributed, I think everybody would be able to live a comfortable life.

Though i’m not from a very wealthy family,  but personally, I have never missed 3  square meals a day, a very big thank you to my family for that.

HERE ARE MY OWN PERSONAL OPINIONS ON WHY I FEEL PEOPLE FAIL TO HELP THE NEEDY!

  1.  GREED;

Greed is the biggest problem we have in the world today, whereby 80% of wealth are controlled by only 10-20% of the worlds population.

For instance, people wants to own a large number of real estate whereas some people out there find it difficult to afford 1 square meal a day.

If the money spent by some billionaires on acquiring the most expensive cars and Hotels, were spent in orphanage homes poverty will be reduced by about 10%. I ask myself everyday, “what is the need of having more than one house when you can only sleep in one at a time”?

2. NO BODY WILL COME TO THEM FOR HELP IF THEY HELP THE LESS PRIVILEGE .

In my own opinion, I think  one of the reasons why some rich people find it difficult  to help the less privilege is probably because the enjoys the fact that people always come to them for help on a regular basis. They feel if they help the poor to secure a life for themselves, no body will come to them for help anymore.  This is directly related to greed. They always want to be the center of attraction why others be the followers.

3.SOME RICH PEOPLE FEELS THAT GIVING HELP  TO THE POOR WILL DEGRADE THEIR SOCIAL STATUS.

Well I am not going to lay more emphasis on this, some certain rich people feel disgusted when they are even in close proximity with poor people.

This is from a personal experience.

4.MAJORITY OF THEM GENERALLY DON’T HAVE A GIVING HEART.

This is the greatest form of greed people like this are never contented, they might have plan to make a thousand dollar a week a soon as they get a thousand dollar that week, they start striving for more.

In conclusion, you don’t need to have the entire world before you can help people, always share the little you have! how you were able to help people when you have $10 will determine how you will help people if you have $1000. ” When you have more than enough build a longer table not a taller fence”

I think there is another REALLY BIG one,,,, even bigger than “greedy” or the fact that its hard to get “rich” if you give your money away (two contradictory concepts).

I find that the “problem” is SO OVERWHELMING, that even if one semi-rich Gringo (say someone with 5 million Dollars) thinks they can help 1,000 people,,,, they end up not doing it because really that 1,000 people is just a drop in the OCEAN,,, and hence they feel that the “Value Received” for the $$$ given is not an efficient use of their money……

Sure its just a rationalization on their behalf. It reminds me of a story:

One day, there were thousands of star fish washed up on the beach, doomed to die in the sun as they dehydrated. There a man saw a boy walking down the beach picking up starfish and throwing them back into the ocean. The man went up to the boy and asked, “Why are you throwing them back in the ocean, there are so many, surely what you are doing will make NO DIFFERENCE.” The boy responded back as he picked one up and threw it into the sea, “It made a difference to that one!”

Hello Aighufue, I have been living around extreme poverty now 10 years here in Central America and every day I find myself wanting to do more for the poor and less fortunate, but it’s true one can only do what’s in their heart to do. I choose to help one person a day because I know it will make a difference to that person and wake others that ignore the poor.
I believe in a great project now that is giving hope to a lot of people led by Great Humanitarian, Dallas Rushing, with KARMA the incentive to help someone everyday will change the world, just by having some where you can see simply good is brilliant.
Thanks for touching a sad and necessary subject.
